Wohlen, August 2024 - Electric vehicles that also have a trailer towing capacity are no longer a rarity. However, there are considerable differences in range, price and towing capacity.
A car trailer is practical and is always used when the trunk is too small or the goods to be transported are dirty or bulky. With a trailer, for example, you can easily transport anything related to gardening or forest maintenance as well as motorcycles or boats. Electric vehicles are often purchased by homeowners with photovoltaic systems. It is precisely this target group that has higher transportation requirements, for example for lawn mowers. It is therefore all the more important that electric vehicles are also suitable for trailers.
We have analyzed various electric vehicles in terms of range, price and trailer load. Here are our results:
The cheapest vehicle with towing capacity is the MG4, with a towing capacity of 500 kg and a range of 350 km for just under CHF 29,000.
In the category with a towing capacity of 1200 kg, the JAC e-JS4 is the absolute price leader at CHF 29,989 with a range of 410 km. The VW ID.4 follows with 35 km more range, but from 49,000 Swiss francs. It is also interesting to note that the VW Group holds 75% of the joint venture with JAC. Volkswagen AG holds 75% of the joint venture "Volkswagen (Anhui) Automotive Company Limited" with JAC via Volkswagen (China) Investment Co. LTD.
The most powerful electric car with a trailer load of 1600 kg is the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which offers a range of 390 km from 54,000 Swiss francs. Alternatively, there is the Kia EV6 for 51,000 francs with a range of 410 km.
If you are dependent on a trailer, you should not only compare the towing capacity, but also the range and price.
